Bulldogs make national preseason football lists
The Georgia football team has gotten a lot of acclaim this summer, and summer camp hasn’t even started yet.
In the last two weeks, four different Bulldogs have been named to preseason watch lists for five national awards.
Senior defensive end Quentin Moses has gotten the most praise. Moses was named to both the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists. The Bednarik and Nagurski awards are presented to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player and best defensive lineman of the year, respectively.
Moses was second in the SEC in 2005 with 11.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss, and is currently sixth on Georgia's list of career sacks, with 20.5. He was also recently named the nation’s No. 1 defensive end by The Sporting News.
Also joining Moses on the Bednarik watch list are fellow Bulldog seniors defensive back Tra Battle and linebacker Tony Taylor.
Battle, a former walk-on, will be Georgia’s lone returning starter in the defensive secondary. Last season, Taylor was sixth on the team in tackles in only nine games of action.
Junior tailback Thomas Brown was named to the Maxwell Trophy list. The Maxwell Trophy is awarded to the best collegiate player of the year. During his two years at Georgia, Brown has combined to rush for 1,611 yards and 12 touchdowns.
All award-winners will be announced after the completion of the regular season.
